British Airways this week announced they will start flying from Stansted to four sunshine routes starting May 28th. This will be the fourth major London airport the carrier will fly from, including Heathrow and Gatwick and London City, leaving only London Luton currently unserved by the carrier.

The airlines latest route network, operated by BA Cityflyer’s 98 seater Embraer 190’s will include the popular holiday sunspots of Faro, Malaga, Palma and Ibiza (all already served by Heathrow, Gatwick and City airports).

Escape Lounge

Passengers who are offered lounge access will be able to use Stansted’s own ‘Escape’ lounge which includes a large seating area, buffet and a la carte dining, as well as complimentary WiFi.

The addition of British Airways reflects Stansted’s recent repositioning to include new premium shopping and dining outlets, new lounge and their already established fast track security, designed to attract legacy and premium carriers, changing their perception from a low-cost airport, to a mixed ‘leisure airport’ such as London Gatwick.

The airport has had a history of legacy carriers attempting to fly to and from the airport, including American Airlines, Continental and even Turkish Airlines, although the only current legacy carriers include SAS, Austrian and now British Airways.
